The Derby Community Foundation's Annual

VETERAN'S DAY CELEBRATION

is November 11th at 2pm!


Please join us on November 11th at 2 p.m. for an informal Veteran's Day gathering at the Walk of Freedom in Garrett Park.


Refreshments will be provided by St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Derby.


The in-person event will be recorded and posted on DCF social media following the celebration.


The Derby Informer will also be publishing a special salute in the Veteran's Section the week of November 11th. This section will include a list of all of the veterans who are honored at the Walk of Freedom.

 

INCLEMENT WEATHER


If the weather is inclement, the event will be cancelled. Watch DCF social media (Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram) for announcement. If the event is cancelled, a brief recognition of the Derby area veterans for whom bricks were installed in 2021 will be recorded and posted on our social media.

 

EVENT AGENDA


The American Legion Riders from Post 408 will ride in. Theresa Hearn, the foundation's Executive Director will begin the celebration with welcome remarks. The Derby High School ROTC's Honor Guard will present the colors. This will be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and remarks from Mayor Randy White. Then, the Derby Senior Center Community Quilters will present quilts to Derby area veterans in attendance. After that, Theresa Hearn will recognize the veterans for whom bricks were installed in 2021, and "Taps" will be performed by Allen Laramore. Molly Pourhussin, USD 260 Teacher of the Deaf, with Sign the program.

THE VETERAN'S MEMORIAL

Walk of Freedom in Derby Kansas

The Derby Area Veteran's Memorial Walk of Freedom at Garrett Park was created in 2011 to honor the brave men and women who have served or are serving in a branch of the United States military. The Memorial Walk of Freedom also includes a tribute to Col. Merlyn Hans Dethlefsen who received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his brave service in the U.S. Air Force. Bricks are added to the memorial each Fall to honor area veterans.
