About This Scholarship

Rod and Marilyn Caret have a long history in Derby where they settled in 1974 when the USAF transferred them to McConnell AFB. They spent their lives devoted to educators and students. Upon retiring from the Air Force, Rod went to work for USD 260. Marilyn’s passion for children was evident in her work throughout the school district. Rod and Marilyn raised two children who both graduated from Derby High School. Rod passed away in 2014. Marilyn continues to reside in Derby. This scholarship is to honor them both.

The Rod and Marilyn Caret Scholarships will be awarded to USD 260 graduating seniors (or juniors if eligible) who intend to pursue a technical certification and will be applied to expenses of first year of education after high school at an accredited post-secondary educational institution. The student must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.75 and must have held a job (no restrictions on type) during junior or senior years of high school.

• Attending a technical (trade) school or community college
• Held a job during junior and senior (or sophomore and junior) years of high school
• Graduating from USD 260 as a senior or junior
• High School GPA of 2.0

• PDF of most recent high school transcript, titled “[Your Name] Transcript”.
• PDF of a letter of recommendation from a teacher, administrator, employer, or another adult (who is not a family member) explaining why he/she feels you are qualified to receive this scholarship. Please title your file “[Your Name] Recommendation”.

• March 31: Application submission deadline.
• April: Recipients will be notified via email by the end of April.
• Mid-May: Derby Community Foundation Scholarship Reception to honor the recipient.
• June 15: Recipients must sign their scholarship agreement and provide college information. Check your email! CommunityGiving will verify that you are enrolled as a full-time student at the college. (Full-time enrollment is typically 12-16 credit hours)
• June: Inform your college that you have received the scholarship.
• September 1: Full payment will arrive at your college unless otherwise notified.
