About This Scholarship

The Steve and Leanne Caret Scholarship will be awarded to USD 260 graduating seniors (or juniors if eligible) who have demonstrated a willingness to put their best efforts forward and have shown integrity in their academic activities and community engagement. The student must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0, must have held a job (no restrictions on type) during junior or senior years of high school, and must have participated in extracurricular activities.


Steve and Leanne Caret are both graduates of the Derby school system. Steve graduated from Derby High School in 1983 and Leanne in 1984. They met while attending Derby High School. Steve attended Wichita State University for his bachelor’s degree and Baker University for his master’s degree. Leanne attended Kansas State University for her bachelor’s degree and Wichita State University for her master’s degree. Though they are not current Derby residents, they both remain extremely proud and thankful for the Derby Community. They are honored to provide support to the students of Derby USD 260.

• March 31: Application submission deadline.
• April: Recipients will be notified via email by the end of April.
• Mid-May: Derby Community Foundation Scholarship Reception to honor the recipient.
• June 15: Recipients must sign their scholarship agreement and provide college information. Check your email! CommunityGiving will verify that you are enrolled as a full-time student at the college. (Full-time enrollment is typically 12-16 credit hours)
• June: Inform your college that you have received the scholarship.
• September 1: Full payment will arrive at your college unless otherwise notified.
